Adam Neely is one of my favorite music-centric YouTubers. Thoroughly versed in music theory, an excellent pianist and bassist (his guitar chops could use some work), Adam delivers his expositions of musical concepts and ideas in a well-paced and erudite fashion, and I always feel my time viewing his work has been well-spent.
Since detailed conversations about music theory can often cause ones eyes to glaze over, Adam often punctuates his videos with clever video clip insertions to keep you on your toes. I think this additional attention to his production values is one reason for his success as a YouTuber.
In this episode, Adam answers the vital question: What’s the actual key of the well-known Jimi Hendrix tune, “Hey Joe”? While of not much concern to the world at large, nor even to most guitar players wanking their way through this touchstone of rock & roll history, to some of us the troubling lack of a traditional key center in ‘Hey Joe’ can be a vexing conundrum.
Not that I have personally lost any sleep over it, mind you.
