The incredible story behind Apple’s most iconic sounds and their unusual names – from the Sosumi Beep to the camera click – and how it all started after The Beatles sued Steve Jobs.

Jim Reekes, the little-known sound engineer synthesized nearly every system sound at Apple during his stint with the at-the-time small company in the 80s.

Now known widely as MacOS, back then, the system was still in its early stages. Reekes played a crucial part in creating the company’s audio architecture, but left the company in 1990 – leaving millions of dollars on the table in the process.
