Bulerias Eb – Ben Woods – 1967 Manuel Reyes – YouTube

I’m an unabashed Flamenco snob, I admit. Having studied and played the music for decades, I know good Flamenco when I hear (which isn’t necessarily when I’m the one playing it. lol).

Of all the American Flamencos, for my money Ben Woods is right up there among the best. Originally a heavy metal shredder, one night Ben came home to find his place burglarized. All of his electrics and amps were gone… the only axe he had left was an old classic guitar the thieves didn’t want to pilfer.

With nothing but a nylon-string guitar to play, Ben soon found himself drawn to fingerstyle, classical, and eventually, Flamenco. Something clicked for the man, he fell in love with Flamenco guitar, and his course was set.

I discovered Ben Woods close to ten years ago, I reckon, and he just keeps getting better and better. This version of Bulerias is positively incendiary. Hope you enjoy it.

I’ve composed this Flamenco bulerias in the key of E flat and played it here on a beautiful 1967 Manuel Reyes Flamenco blanca, in the studio of Kai Narezo, back in Feb. 2017. Today I decided to remove my tremolo sections and add some cajon. This is the result.
