Making a mini-garage under the big damn deck

Doing some tweaking of last summer’s big damn deck project: sealing in the end to make a 10×10 mini-garage. I wrapped the west and south sides of the deck posts with heavy 8-mil black plastic sheeting, covered that with vinyl close-weave lattice, and trimmed everything with treated 1×4” pine boards.

It’s a low-cost, low-tech solution to add to our storage space on the homestead, and if it works as planned I can keep a riding mower, ATV or motorcycle under the deck and not worry about it being exposed to the elements.

Today I’ll be installing corrugated clear roofing, a short gutter and spout pipe beneath the deck to act as a roof so this area will not get rain or snowmelt through the gaps in the deck boards. Homemade double doors will be added to the north side to weather-seal the access point.

UPDATE

Still a work in progress, but I did manage to get the roofing material installed, plus I put in a rack for storing boards. Here’s a pic with the Polaris 450 Sportsman and my leftover poplar and other boards stashed out of the weather.
