‘Memories Of Zagreb’ live at the Hobnob

My friend, videographer Bill Graham, sneaked into my weekly Wine-down Wednesday gig at the Hobnob in Nashville, IN one evening a couple years ago (April 1, 2015, to be exact) and grabbed some footage of me playing my tune, “Memories Of Zagreb”, at the end of my first set, unbeknownst to me. I learned of the video the next day when he posted it on Facebook.

It was an impromptu capture, just using his iPhone, and between the distance between us and the crowd noise (and through no fault of his own, to be sure), the audio was kinda funky — rumbling bass frequencies contaminated the audio to the point where it was not a very nice listen.

Jump forward a couple years, and somehow the video resurfaced on my wall. I was watching it thinking, “Ya know, I wasn’t playing too badly that night… if only I could download the vid and run it through Logic Pro X and iMovie, I might have something here.”

Well, a quick search of YouTube revealed a video showing a sequence of steps leading to unlocking a video from the bowels of FB and making it downloadable. Once I had the video on my hard-drive, the rest just took a little time, pleasantly spent. I tweaked the EQ, added a bit of compression and stereo imaging, and the sound, while certainly not perfect, was vastly improved — enough so that I wanted to post it on YouTube.

I hope you enjoy my tune. And my thanks to Bill Graham for capturing this performance.
