My Background in Instrument Repairs
I’ve been performing my own instrument maintenance, repairs and modifications for many decades. My first opportunity to do repairs professionally was at Bloomington, Indiana’s go-to guitar shop back in the 70s and 80s, the Guitar Gallery on East Kirkwood Avenue, where I was teaching at the time.
Long on reputation and short on glitz, the Guitar Gallery was known as that funky concrete block shop with the threadbare carpet where all of Bloomington’s musical illuminati and outlaws would congregate. For several years I handled a constant flow of instruments coming across my bench.
I’ve occasionally plied the repair trade at various other stores in Indiana and California since then, and continue to do so privately.
I very much enjoy healing instruments
and making their owners happy.
